The world´s most interesting writer :: 2026
Years ago I met Italians who - for a while - let me forget about my previous opinion about Italians. I met them in the context of a slow food store right where I live, and all of them were artists in a way. One was named Angelo, he was into literature, and he brought up the wildest topics. And I knew, he was right !
For instance I asked him who his favorite writer was (out of some thousand, he had a master degree in literature), and he said: Life !
You can’t beat this. That was about 8 years ago, and I didn’t discuss any of these things with anyone after, because I knew people were not willing to discuss anything.
Until I came to Mykonos this year in spring, and spent some days in the house of an almost 90 years old american painter, who has been living there since hippie times. For some reason, maybe because of her story (she told me about) I started discussing all these things with her. She totally liked them! And she’d add her stories!
Only later, back in Vienna, I found out that it was funny - Angelo and Angela! I only met one Angelo and one Angela, he a gen x Italian who ended up living in Vienna and she, a young american artist who once traveled on her own to Europe, landed on Mykonos, Greece, and stayed ! And both had stayed because of love, totally unplanned !
Interesting biographies remind us of how creative life is. But one has to be brave too ! :: 26
