Youth brings up the real nature they say. And I think that’s right. People stay the same, no matter how much they disguise themselves, their real nature shows up before they turn 30, that’s the real person. And the real person doesn´t change.
Recently I discussed my travel to anafi, greece, 25 years ago. I lived at roukounas* beach in a bamboo house of a musician from athens, I think I stayed there a month or so. Roukanas was wildcamping back then, and many of the people there were part of the traditional music scene of athens, carrying their huge instruments with them and staying for months. Sounds magical, was magical. I met a man from thessaloniki and we’d go for a swim now and then. One day he asked me - who did you bring here ? Who told you about this place ?
And i said - well I looked up the map of the greek islands and I thought this one was interesting, because there was only one road. Then I booked a flight to santorini via athens, and came here by ferry. I had no idea about this place before, and I think nobody I know has ever heard of this island.
He looked at me, eyes wide open, then he said: you are brave !
And i didn´t tell him the whole story of flight delay, being stuck at athens airport the whole night, 36 hours without sleep before finally reaching anafi island. And then getting no room there, sleeping on the beach, meeting some hippie like greek folks in the morning who told me about a place to sleep at a beautiful beach. And this wasn’t even the whole story yet.
So yes, brave. I used to be brave. Is the youth nature the real nature ? We will see.
* roukounas is a huge sandy beach on anafi island, which - that time - could only be reached by small boat or on a sandy path more than 1 hour walk from Chora.
